The professional chorus Cantus Columbus, the renowned Vega String Quartet, and pianist Janie Lee Bullock have gleaned the best from three of their previous collaborations to create an introduction to the so-called Great American Songbook. Made up of arrangements of 26 songs by three of the songbook’s founders (Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin, Rodgers & Hart), the concert samples works from 1917 through 1948, including such standards as Isn’t It Romantic, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, I Didn’t Know What Time It Was, I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Warm and All the Things You Are. The performance completes a seven-concert project Cantus Columbus initiated in 2007 to survey songs by the five songbook founders (Cole Porter, George & Ira Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin, and Rodgers & Hart).
